Bluesky workflow guide
Connect Bluesky with an app password.
A Bluesky app password is a separate credential for a connected app. Use one for Castudio rather than entering your main Bluesky password. You will also need your account handle and access to the Castudio workspace you want to use.
1. Create a password for this connection
Sign in to Bluesky and open App passwords in its settings. Create a new app password and give it a name you will recognise, such as Castudio. Copy the generated credential for the connection step.
Treat the app password as a secret. Do not place it in a post, send it to support or include it in a screenshot. A named password makes the connection easier to identify later when reviewing access in Bluesky.
2. Check your handle
Use the handle attached to the Bluesky account you want to connect, such as example.bsky.social. A display name is not the same thing: several people can use the same display name.
Copy the handle carefully and check that you are signed in to the intended account in Bluesky. Castudio removes a leading @ and surrounding spaces from the handle, but a misspelt handle still points to the wrong account or fails authentication.
3. Connect in the right Castudio workspace
Open your connected accounts in Castudio, choose Bluesky and enter your handle and the app password. Complete the connection and check the profile shown before preparing any posts.
In a shared workspace, an owner or admin may need to make the connection. If you cannot connect, check your workspace access and the current platform availability rather than repeatedly changing the password.
4. Resolve a connection error
For an invalid handle or app-password message, compare the handle with your Bluesky profile and make sure you pasted the generated app password rather than your main password. If you no longer have the credential, create a new named app password in Bluesky and use that to connect.
If the credentials are correct, confirm that the account is hosted by Bluesky. Castudio does not currently connect to self-hosted Bluesky accounts. An account restriction or temporary service problem can also prevent a connection; use the error shown to decide the next step.
If you want to remove this access, disconnect the account in Castudio and review the named app password in Bluesky’s settings. Remove credentials you no longer intend to use. Check scheduled posts before disconnecting a profile they depend on.
5. Prepare a small first post
Open Create post in the Planner and select the connected Bluesky profile. Start with text you are ready to publish. Castudio limits Bluesky captions to 300 characters and accepts up to four images; leave video out of this workflow.
Save a draft while reviewing, then choose a future time and check the composer timezone. After scheduling, review the publishing result and your Bluesky profile. If a result is uncertain, check the profile before creating another copy.
Before you start
- A Bluesky-hosted account and its correct handle.
- An app password created for this connection.
- The intended workspace and connected profile.
